Born on November 28, 1961, to Harriet Nelson and Dean Nelson, Angela entered the world in Onida, South Dakota, where she was raised alongside her six siblings. As the sixth child in a family of seven, she developed a strong appreciation for family, community, and the values that shaped her throughout her life.

Angela was always proud of her South Dakota roots and often shared stories about growing up in Onida, a small town that she proudly noted had only 701 residents. Her connection to her hometown remained an important part of who she was, and she carried the lessons of hard work, determination, and humility with her throughout her life.

Her first professional opportunity reflected her unique background and strong work ethic. Before beginning her formal career, Angela’s experience included helping with harvest season and driving a combine — a detail that stood out when she applied for her first “real” job. The manager at Chase Bank found her background so unusual and impressive that he hired her immediately, beginning a professional journey filled with growth and achievement.

Angela later built a successful career in the hospitality and events industry. She began working with the Marriott Corporation, where she spent five years developing her skills and passion for creating memorable experiences. She later moved from Gaithersburg, Maryland, to Houston, Texas, where she joined Doubletree Hotels and continued her work in hospitality for another five years.

Her career eventually led her to River Oaks Country Club, where she served as Director of Catering and Special Events for 13 years. In that role, Angela became known for her creativity, organization, and ability to bring important celebrations to life. Her passion for helping people create unforgettable moments became one of the defining parts of her professional identity.

In 2000, Angela followed her entrepreneurial spirit and started her own Wedding and Special Event Consulting business. Over the course of her career, she worked on more than 1,000 events, helping countless families celebrate weddings, milestones, and special occasions. She found great joy in planning events and developed lifelong friendships with many of the people she worked with.

Angela retired in 2020, leaving behind a remarkable career built on passion, commitment, and personal connections. For her, the greatest reward was not only the success of each event but also the relationships and friendships that grew from those experiences.

Above all else, Angela’s greatest pride and accomplishment was her family. Her children, Ryan Nix and Ashley Nix, were the center of her world. She cherished them deeply and was incredibly proud of the kind, loving, generous, funny, and remarkable people they became. Their happiness brought her endless joy, and the bond they shared was one of the greatest treasures of her life.

Angela was also deeply loved by her siblings, extended family members, neighbors, and friends. Among those closest to her was her sister Carol Nelson, whom she shared a special bond with, as well as her dear friend Charity Lykins Gier. The many relationships Angela built throughout her life reflected the warmth, kindness, and generosity she showed to others.
